A Case Series on COVID-19 Associated Mucormycosis (CAM): Experience from a Tertiary Care Centre in India

Aim: During the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic, a life threatening fungal infection, mucormycosis have been detected in patients post disease. Commonly known as ‘black fungus’ can causes tissue necrosis, inflammation and necrosis head neck regions, paranasal sinuses, facial bones, orbits it also cause intracranial spread. In current study we describe series cases associated (CAM), clinical presentations, risk factors, diagnosis, management follow up experience from tertiary care centre India.
 Methods: This is retrospective observational conducted over period one year (April 2021 to April 2022) at our centre. The diagnosis was done by RT PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction). Mucormycosis Histopathology cultures. demographic details were retrieved medical records.
 Results: present report four Rhino-orbital-cerebral Mucormycosis, three Rhino-orbital two Pulmonary case Disseminated Mucormycosis. All had undergone extensive surgical debridement received Liposomal Amphotericin B initial antifungal medication Posaconazole or Isavuconazole step down therapy. Six responded treatment while did not favorable outcome succumbed illness. 
 Conclusion: deadly disease with high mortality morbidity if diagnosed treated an early stage. Factors like poor control blood sugars, inadvertent use corticosteroids, immune dysfunction due result despite aggressive interventions.
